As humans, we have a habit of polarising our perceptions of others based on what resonates. If someone says or does something that aligns with our current belief system or values we elevate that person on a pedestal and adopt their views without proper discernment. Or if someone expresses an idea that doesn’t vibe with us or creates discomfort, we dismiss them entirely, rejecting not only the message but the whole person and any reflection they offer.
It’s a black and white, all-or-nothing mentality. Instead of carefully integrating wisdom from all sources, we outsource our truth, clinging to idols and condemning scapegoats, forgetting that everyone reflects different pieces of the same puzzle.
For me, growth is about carefully sifting through information with clarity. It’s about taking what serves my inner being and leaving what doesn’t – without needing to idolise or vilify the messenger. Otherwise we are just trading one illusion for another.
